Careflight 4WD Venture participants will have the opportunity to inspect a Royal Australian Navy Seahawk helicopter when 816 Squadron helps kick start their three day fundraising trek.
The 4WD Venture is a family fundraising event; the 30 participating vehicles will travel 500 kilometres, mostly off road, starting at Nowra and finishing at Yadboro.
Careflight Community Engagement Co-ordinator John Ebbott says participants are looking forward to their unusual starting line.
“The aim of the 4WD Venture is to raise funds for Careflight, but fun is definitely a factor too.” Mr Ebbott said.
“We try to give to give everyone something a little bit special; something they might not normally have the opportunity to do and getting up close to a Seahawk helicopter definitely fits the bill”.
CMDR Shane Craig, Commanding Officer of 816 Squadron said his team were happy to be supporting the event.
“As a charity, Careflight relies on community support to deliver a life-saving service and we’re pleased to do our bit for the 4WD Venture and support Careflight’s vital AeroMedical work,” said Commander Craig.
816 Squadron operates 16 Sikorsky S-70B-2 Seahawk helicopters and their primary role is to provide anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface surveillance.
