ASSAIL SIX is the last crew of the six crews that form the ASSAIL division based in Darwin. ASSAIL SIX is part of a rotational crew organisation that is responsible for the Armidale Class Patrol Boats (ACPBs) HMA Ships, Ararat, and Pirie, along with ASSAIL ONE and THREE. The ASSAIL Division was the second of the RAN multi-crew divisions to be created after the ATTACK division.
The crew of ASSAIL SIX formed on 6 Nov 2006, entering into RAN service in a joint ceremony at HMAS Coonawarra with ASSAIL FIVE on 17 Nov 2006. ASSAIL SIX were initially embarked in HMAS Pirie, conducting patrols for OP RESOLUTE. Since formation, the crew of ASSAIL SIX have been embarked in HMA Ships Broome, Pirie, Ararat and Maitland.
Whilst embarked in HMAS Broome, the Crew of ASSAIL SIX acted in support of the filming of the second season of the Australian drama Sea Patrol, in November 2007. This was the first filming for the series on an Armidale Class Patrol Boat.
In the time since ASSAIL SIX's inauguration into the RAN, the crew has been providing essential border protection in Australia's Northern waters, within Australia's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The crew of ASSAIL SIX are part of the Australian Defence Force's front line in a government wide effort to protect Australia assets, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Sean Logan, RAN.
