Through 2009 used clothing has been collected at HMAS Cerberus (CAPT Mark Hill CSC RAN) together with a tin shake by the Rotary Club of Hastings during the 2009 Open Day (25 OCT 09) which raised in excess of $1500. This has funded a container to be sent to the affected communities of Samoa following their Tsunami last year.

The Western Port Secondary College, and local business house, Bowens P/L, with assistance from Hastings Rotary have recently packed a 20 foot container with clothes, uniforms, school desks and chairs and a variety of other useful materials to go to Samoa. Once there, the Samoan Lions Club organisation will distribute the goods to those most in need.

Captain Hill noted, “This is a real demonstration of international good will at all levels – Navy, Rotary International in Australia, Western Port Secondary College, local business and Lions in Samoa – working together to assist those in need.”
