Commander Paul Scott, RAN
Commander Paul Scott, RAN was born and raised in Charlton, Victoria. He joined the Navy in 1986 as a member of the first intake of the Australian Defence Force Academy, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) in 1988.
Initial Seaman Officer training saw CMDR Scott serve in HMA Ships Stalwart, Swan, Curlew and Benalla. He received his Full Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate in 1991 while serving in HMAS Adelaide (II).
In 1993 he successfully completed the Clearance Diving Officers Course. On completion of this course, he was posted as Operations Officer of Australian Clearance Diving Team One. He completed Mine Warfare Officers Course in late 1994 and after a short return to Clearance Diving Team One, he filled a number of Mine Warfare staff positions in the Tactical Development, Route Survey and Sea Training Group areas between 1995-1997.
He was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, as well as successfully completing Principal Warfare Officer and Communications and Information Systems Officers Courses in 1998. He was posted shortly after to HMAS Sydney as Signals Communications Officer 1998-2000. During this period he also served in the capacity of Executive Officer and Operations Officer and conducted operational service in East Timor. While in command of HMAS Diamantina (2002-2004), LCDR Scott deployed to the Solomon Islands in support of Operation ANODE.
Since promotion to Commander in 2006, he has fulfilled staff appointments in Navy Personnel and Training, Military Strategic Commitments and Headquarters Joint Operations Command. CMDR Scott also deployed to the Middle East in 2006 as the Liaison Officer to Commander US Naval Central Command in Bahrain, in support of Operation CATALYST.
CMDR Scott is a graduate of the Australian Command and Staff College and holds a Masters of Business Administration, Masters of Management in Defence Studies and Graduate Diploma of Maritime Studies.
CMDR Scott assumed command of HMAS Tobruk in January 2010.
