Lieutenant Luke Weston, RAN
Lieutenant Luke Weston, RAN, was born in Sydney, New South Wales and educated at Marcellin College Randwick; he joined the Royal Australian Navy as a Recruit Cook in 1995. His initial training was conducted at Recruit School HMAS Cerberus prior to completion of the Initial Cook Course. During his first sea posting to HMAS Melbourne he participated in Rim of Pacific Exercises in 1998 and deployed to the North Arabian Gulf in 1999 enforcing UN sanctions under Op Demask IX. During 2000 served as a relief cook in HMAS Labuan as a part of UNTAET forces in East Timor. Posting back to HMAS Melbourne as a Leading Seaman Cook before officer selection and training at HMAS Creswell in July 2001.
During initial officer training Midshipman Weston was selected as Gunroom Mess President and awarded the Governor General Cup upon graduation. Midshipman Weston commenced his Seaman Officer Application Course at HMAS Watson in 2002. During his training, promoted to Sub-Lieutenant in 2002 was a member of the Commissioning Ships Company HMAS Stuart, served in Bougainville in HMAS Balikpapan, and continued training in HMAS Betano. In 2004 was promoted to Lieutenant and deployed again to the North Arabian Gulf enforcing Op Catalyst in HMAS Adelaide (II) as a Boarding Officer before being awarded his Bridge Warfare Certificate.
On his return to Australia, Lieutenant Weston posted to HMA ships Canberra (II), served briefly in HMAS Kanimbla during Op Sumatra Assist II and HMAS Arunta as an Officer of the Watch prior to his posting to the Royal Australian Naval College as a Divisional Officer in January 2006, responsible for the training of the Navy’s future leaders.
In late 2007, he was appointed as Executive Officer HMAS Tarakan where he received a Fleet Commanders Commendation for Exceptional Leadership. In 2009 Lieutenant Weston was posted to the Royal Australian Navy School of Survivability and Ship Safety before selection as Commanding Officer HMAS Wewak. Lieutenant Weston assumed command of HMAS Wewak on 10 December 2010.
Lieutenant Weston enjoys all sporting activities and keeping active, also a very passionate fine food and wine critic. He is married to Andrea who is a Physical Trainer and they have two children, William Grover and Leilani Elisabeth.
