Civilian Engineer Development Program Vacation Employment

Paid vacation employment is offered to penultimate year engineering students during the Christmas/New Year period. We are looking for university students currently undertaking undergraduate tertiary studies in the fields of:

  • Naval Architecture
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechatronics and
  • Systems Engineering

What's involved?

Participation in the VEP will require successful applicants to work full time, under a non-ongoing employment contract, for a 12 week period over the Christmas/New Year period, with 1 week off over the stand down period.

Employment Conditions

Salary

All program participants are employed as Australian Public Service Officers (APS) Level 1. The salary for these positions is $38,741 pa pro-rated.

Leave

Defence has an official 'stand-down' that runs from Christmas Day until the designated New Years day public holiday. 'Stand-down' is at full pay and no leave approval is required.

As part of your employment contract you will be eligible to accrue annual leave at a rate of 5.75 hours per fortnight.

Flexible Working Hours

During the employment period you will have access to Flexible working hours in accordance with the requirement of the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DeCA) 2009. The full DeCA can be viewed at www.defence.gov.au.
