HMAS Bendigo was the 9th of the Fremantle class patrol boats whose primary role was to conduct fisheries and civil surveillance patrols, protecting Australia's borders. She was one of four boats based in Cairns, Queensland. Bendigo was the second ship to be so named, HMAS Bendigo (I) being a Bathurst class corvette that served with distinction in World War II.
Bendigo served her final year of operational life in 2006. Later that year she was paid off and replaced by an Armidale class patrol boat. Bendigo worked hard throughout her last year, doing what she does best - patrolling our Northern borders.
Bendigo was the second ship of this name within the RAN. HMAS Bendigo (I) was a Bathurst class corvette.
