HMAS Betano was named after the location where HMAS Voyager (I) landed the 2/4 Independent Company at Betano in Timor on 23 September 1942. HMA Ships Kuru, Castlemaine and Armidale (I) withdrew the Independent Company from Betano between December 1 and 3.
