HMAS Cerberus Open Day - 25 October 2009
HMAS Cerberus is the home of the Royal Australian Navy and is the Navy's premier training establishment. You are welcome to our Open Day where everything we have to offer will be on display, plus much more.
It is from Cerberus that most of our Navy personnel will be trained in today's most modern Defence Force. The range of careers is huge and the possibilities are practically unlimited. Did you know Navy has over 50 varied career paths and in the Defence Force there are around 200 jobs to choose from.
During the Open Day all our Schools and Faculties will be open for you to inspect and to ask questions of our uniformed and civilian staff. As well as being a Navy base we are also home to a number of Defence Force Schools where men and women of all the three services - Navy, Army and Air Force - learn their skills.
Activities on Open Day include:
- Boats and aircraft on display
- Boat rides
- Aerobatics display from the RAAF Museum at Point Cook and our local War Birds restored World War 2 aircraft
- Commando Skydiver Parachutists
- Aircraft and heavy vehicle simulators that you can fly or drive
- Army vehicles and a towed howitzer
- RAEME Element Recovery Troop
- Heritage buildings, Wardroom (Officers' dining room) with its heritage listed murals
- Chapels of St Mark and Our Lady Star of the Sea
- HMAS Cerberus Museum
The Navy Band will have concerts in St Mark’s as well as Ceremonial Sunset and Beat to Quarters.
There will be free rides on boats, slides and traction engine rides for the young and an animal farm and creche for the younger ones.
There is ample secure parking, buses to take you around the events and a large range of food and drinks to keep you refreshed as well as good picnic facilities.
