What to See and Do

The Royal Australian Navy warmly invites you to its annual Fleet Base East/HMAS Kuttabul Open Day, being held this year on Sunday, 9 October, at Fleet Base East, Woolloomooloo.

Highlights for visitors will include tours of current warships, including HMAS Ballarat and HMAS Darwin, and a wet winching demonstration by a Navy helicopter hovering over Woolloomooloo Bay.

Kids can play underwater noughts and crosses with one of Navy’s elite Clearance Divers in their dive tank.

Children can also burn off excess energy on the indoor climbing wall and mini indoor obstacle course at the Navy Indoor Sports Centre.

You can immerse yourself in Australia’s rich naval history at the Heritage Centre, in this, the Royal Australian Navy’s centenary year.

A free shuttle bus will run between the main Fleet Base wharf and the Heritage Centre.

The Royal Australian Navy Band will be providing live entertainment during the day, and will perform a Ceremonial Sunset at 3:45pm.

While there you can check out a cooking display by Navy cooks (with free food samples), learn about careers in Navy from Defence Force Recruiting and check out Navy’s Variety Bash cars.

Other attractions include face painting, food and drink stalls and more.

Best of all, entry and all Navy activities are free.
