HMAS Warramunga's Return to Australia

HMAS Warramunga returned to her homeport, Fleet Base West (FBW), Garden Island, WA on Sunday 12 July 2009, berthing alongside Diamantina Pier.

Warramunga departed from FBW for the Middle East Area of Operation (MEAO) on 12 January 2009 for a six month deployment on Operation SLIPPER where she relieved HMAS Parramatta.

Warramunga's deployment marked the twentieth rotation of RAN Ships to the MEAO since September 2001 and the second deployment for the ship to the Gulf.

Warramunga was welcomed home by Senator for Western Australia, Senator the Hon Mark Bishop, representing the Minister for Defence, Chief of Navy, VADM Russ Crane, AM, CSM, RAN, and Commander Australian Fleet, RADM Nigel Coates, AM, RAN, along with family and friends of the ship's company.
