HMAS Warramunga visits Bahrain
1 April 2009
HMAS Warramunga (CMDR A.M GORDON, RAN ) visited Bahrain recently prior to proceeding on patrol as a part of Task Force 152. While the port visit was an operational stop with the Command Team receiving briefings and the ship embarking mission specific stores, a cricket match was arranged to celebrate Australia Day. Organised by service-agent Seven Seas at the Awali Cricket Club, the competition in Manama involved the XOs 11 challenging a team picked by the CO
As they always say “A great day was had by all”. With the clichés aside and despite the very fast outfield and disparate levels of experience in the team, players and spectators did enjoy the day.
The highlight of the day was the bowling achievements LSMT Michelle Agar (woMan of the Match) in Bowling out LCDR Nigel Rowan.
Of other particular note was the XO’s Canadian twist on bowling and batting. The XO has been taken aside by a five year old local and shown the proper way to bowl.
POET Bradford displayed fine batting prowess with LSET Barr belting the bowlers all over the field. ABSTD Crystal Schultz proved to be a great all rounder showing her expertise in both batting and bowling.
The XOs 11 ending up winners by the slender margin of 12 runs.
