Illawarra Regional Training Awards Recognises Albatross Trainee

AB Michael Nowill’s hard work and dedication to his training was recently recognised by the Illawarra Vocational Training Committee. These awards recognise the very best of vocational education and training in the Shoalhaven region, focusing on top apprentices and trainees. Over 90 nominations were received for the 2009 awards.

Michael, who is based at 817 Squadron at HMAS Albatross, won in the category of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Avionics Certificate. Michael was nominated by his trainer Matt Fanning who said "AB Nowill is a proactive technician with an excellent attitude who was nominated for his diligent work as an avionics technician. In undertaking his trade training, AB Nowill completed his industry journal well in advance of the required timeframe and to a very high standard and he was very deserving of his award."

Michael is no stranger to awards, having been also nominated 'Shark of the Year' for best avionics trainee in 2008.

Matt Fanning says that Michael has always made the most of the opportunities RAN offers, "Undertaking his trade training through the Navy has provided AB Nowill with outstanding opportunities to combine a focus on his trade progression with the complex, exciting and challenging work environment associated with operating with the RAN at sea."
