Entry Levels

There are two levels of entry for musicians to join the Navy:

  • Qualified Entry Sailor - Non Degree
    • AMusA or equivalent standard
  • Qualified Entry Sailor - Degree
    • A relevant degree from a recognised music institution

All Musician applicants are required to audition to the satisfaction of the Director of Music - Navy.

Instrument Categories.

Flute and piccolo, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet and cornet, french horn, euphonium, trombone, tuba, double bass, bass guitar, percussion, drum kit, piano, voice and rhythm guitar. Position availability varies each year.

Pay and Allowances

Once you finish your initial military and job training you will earn a highly competitive salary. Plus, you get the added benefits of free health care, excellent superannuation, subsidised food and accommodation.
