Leadership and Ethics

Directorate of Navy Leadership and Ethics

The Directorate of Navy Leadership and Ethics (DNLE) was formed on 01 July 2011, following CN's endorsement of a long term strategic approach to Navy Leadership Development. While maintaining strong links with New Generation Navy, DNLE now reports to DGNP and is currently formalising a new organisational structure.

Members of this group are located in Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne and Perth, and are responsible for the creation and delivery of the Navy Leadership Development Workshops for senior officers and senior sailors, new modules in junior officer leadership courses and junior sailor promotion courses. The DNLE team also delivers mentoring training programs and provides coaching under the Navy Leadership Coaching program.

Navy Leadership Development Workshop Requirements

The requirement to undertake a Navy Leadership Development Workshop (NLDW) has been advertised via signal (PDNT WAB/Z4P/WPB 290352Z SEP 09, PDNT WAB/WPB/Z4P 070333Z OCT 09 and NPCMA WBK/WCK/Z4P 240354Z MAR 11 - these files are available through the Defence Restricted Network (DRN)). However, for PN CAPT, CMDR, LCDR, WO and CPO completion of one of these workshops will be a condition of promotion from 01 Jan 2013.

After 01 Jan 2013, the requirement will be for all PN CAPT, CMDR, LCDR, WO and CPO to complete a NLDW workshop every three years. A PMKeyS proficiency number has been allocated to allow for tracking of completion and currency.

The workshops are optional for Reservists, although strongly encouraged if engaged in frequent Reserve service.

These workshops are also offered to Navy EL2 and EL1 employees and provide another option for the leadership learning and development component of the PFADS for these people.
