Born in Adelaide in 1971, Lieutenant Carl M. Jordan’s first exposure to the RAN occurred whilst living in Darwin for four years in the early 1980’s. During this time his parents supported his desire to learn and experience all things military which included numerous visits to historical World War II sites, Air Shows and Ship Open Days to name just a few. After completing high school LEUT Jordan commenced studies at the University of Adelaide however competing commitments saw him enter the workforce on a full time basis before making the decision to follow his dream and enter the RAN, a process which saw him enter the Navy as a Direct Entry Officer in 1996. Completing Initial Training at HMAS Creswell, the then Midshipman Jordan attended the Seaman Officers Application Course both at sea and ashore in HMA Ships Tobruk, Sydney, Protector and Hobart. In early 1999 he was promoted to Sub-Lieutenant and awarded his Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate in Hobart, remaining onboard as Senior Bridge Watchkeeper until February 2000.

Following his time in Hobart, LEUT Jordan posted to the Joint Intelligence Centre as a Maritime Intelligence Watchkeeper. Here he undertook Communications Officer training at HMAS Cerberus prior to joining HMAS Stuart in the role of Signals Communications Officer as part of her Commissioning crew. In early 2003, LEUT Jordan returned to HMAS Cerberus in the role of Course Implementation Officer and 2I/C at the Defence Force School of Signals – Maritime CIS Wing.
