Lieutenant Commander Sean Logan
Lieutenant Commander Sean Logan, RAN began his naval career as a Midshipman at the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1996, graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science).
Following Seaman Officer training, Logan gained his Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate in the Fremantle Class Patrol Boat, HMAS Dubbo (II). Subsequently posted to HMAS Anzac, he was awarded a Frigate endorsement in 2001 whilst deployed to the Middle East in support of UN sanctions against Iraq.
Logan then sub-specialised as a Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Officer before posting to the Mine Hunter, HMAS Diamantina. The highlight of this posting was the searching for and disposal of hundreds of pieces of live World War II ordnance during two operational deployments to the Solomon Islands when assigned to the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI).
In 2005, Logan posted to Australian Clearance Diving Team One as the Tactical Officer and then later as the Operations Officer. During this posting, he was responsible for coordinating numerous overseas deployments, as well as the RAN’s diving assistance to the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006.
Following 18 months in the Operations Planning Directorate (J53) of the newly transformed Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC), Logan again deployed to the Middle East. He was responsible for the training of Iraqi Navy and Marine personnel in Force Protection and Boarding Operations assigned to Combined Task Force 158 within the North Arabian Gulf. Following this, he worked as the Theatre Security Cooperation Officer with Combined Task Force 152 in Bahrain, during which time he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander.
Logan assumed command of the Armidale Class Patrol Boat Crew ASSAIL SIX in December 2009. He is married to Nicole and they have a young daughter, Skye. He enjoys camping, traveling and playing most sports. He looks forward to completing his postgraduate studies towards a Masters of Project Management and to continuing to serve alongside his crew.
