LCDR Viktor Pilicic, RAN joined the Royal Australian Navy in January 1987 from Melbourne and later that year graduated from the Royal Australian Naval College. After completing further Seaman Officer training, including postings to HMA Ships Jervis Bay and Brisbane (II), he was awarded a Minor War Vessel Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate (BWC) in HMAS Geelong.

In 1989, SBLT Pilicic joined HMAS Parramatta (III) for his BWC Endorsement in a Major Fleet Unit. His subsequent postings included HMA Submarine Ovens and then as an Officer of the Watch, HMA Ships Westralia and Swan. In 1995, LEUT Pilicic attended the Principal Warfare Officer's (PWO) Course at HMAS Watson, Sydney.

LEUT Pilicic successfully completed PWO Course and assumed duties as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer (ASWO) in HMAS Torrens in 1996. In 1997 he sub-specialised in Surface Warfare, joining HMAS Anzac on completion which in 1999, included operational service in East Timor. In 2000, the newly promoted LCDR Pilicic took up his posting as the commissioning Operations Officer in HMAS Warramunga contributing to her acceptance into service; the posting culminated with participation in Border Security Operations in Northern Australia known as Operation RELEX.

In 2002, LCDR Pilicic joined Maritime Development Branch in Capability Systems at Russell Offices Canberra as the Staff Officer SEA 4000 (AWD - Air Warfare Destroyer Project) where he achieved formal acceptance of the capability requirement for the AWD. In mid-2003, following a short posting as the Operations Officer to the Commander of the Australian Amphibious Task Group, LCDR Pilicic assumed duties as Executive Officer of the amphibious ship HMAS Kanimbla; this posting included a short notice deployment in 2004, to the Tsunami ravaged province of Banda Aceh Indonesia as part of the Australian Government contribution to disaster relief.

In 2006, LCDR Pilicic attended the ADF Command and Staff Course, which he successfully completed and following further studies through the University of Wollongong, was awarded a Masters Degree in Maritime Studies with Distinction. In 2007, with his new found Joint skills, LCDR Pilicic was posted to Joint Operations Command Plans Branch as a Staff Officer in Domestic and Regional Security.

On 13 December 2007 LCDR Pilicic assumed Command of Armidale Class Patrol Boat (ACPB) Crew ATTACK FOUR which will see him embark in HMA Ships Albany, Larrakia, Armidale and Bathurst, all home ported in Darwin.
