Message from Chief of Navy about NGN
New Generation Navy (NGN) is a critical change program for Navy. I see NGN being about modernisation: of our culture, our structures and the way we lead. And we need that because we have some exciting capabilities coming into service; we need people who want to be here, who enjoy the culture of Navy, the work they do and the environment in which they do it. It is critical that we are able to use our new capabilities efficiently in the defence of our country and it's interests.
I have been involved with NGN since its inception, and I truly believe it is gaining traction. It is at least a five year program, we are in it for the long haul but we do have some way to go.
I hope my time as the Chief of Navy will be defined by the results we achieve together, and the progress we continue to make and build on the platform that has been laid in the first years of the NGN program.
So that's where I see NGN - it will evolve, it will change, but my commitment to it is absolute. Be in no doubt about that.
NGN is not only about the top level of the Navy driving the change - the change needs to come from within, and driven from the bottom up. I believe we are seeing evidence that it is.
