Gunroom Functions
Life here at the College is not all lessons, eating and sleeping. In fact trainees get to enjoy a range of social activities. The gunroom as one of the main social hubs of trainees regularly holds different types of functions. These can be as simple as a movie night, through to Sunday social sport.
You will have the opportunity to enjoy a drink or two while chatting with friends, listening to music, playing pool or darts or even watching movies together in the TV room annex.
Local Haunts
When going ashore (proceeding on leave), trainees have a number of preferred local destinations. These are as follows:
- The Husky Pub - The Husky Pub is located in nearby Huskisson. It features a poolroom with bar, a sports bar, as well as a large dining area with both indoor and outdoor seating. The meals are quite large and there is a free courtesy bus service that operates at night.
- The Country Club - The Country Club is located in nearby St Georges Basin. It features a large dance auditorium and a dining area. On Friday and Saturday nights they usually have a live band playing in the auditorium, with a crowd of mixed age.
- Nowra - This is the closest major regional shopping area, and is therefore somewhere you will wish to explore on your weekends off.
Mateship
The mates you make in the Navy will be unlike those you have ever made before. The mateship that develops is derived from working together through various hardships and providing a mutual support to each other. For most people your mates become your family, as you will spend months at a time together especially whilst you are at sea.
Long after you have left the Navy you will find that you still keep in touch with your Navy mates and that they will still be there for you when you need them.
Divisional Common Rooms
The Divisional Common Rooms provide tea and coffee facilities as well as containing a TV and DVD player to utilise when not on duty. You will find this a great spot to come and watch the footy or a DVD with your mates when you don't feel like going to the Gunroom.
