Alpine Snowsports refers to the disciplines of skiing and snowboarding, in the context of racing. Competitors descend a steep snow covered slope following a pre-set course; the aim being to complete the course in the quickest time and stay within the markers. The key is to guide the skis/snowboard in a specific direction while staying in control and maintaining a speed that is within the competitor's skill level, and all with a focus on safety.

Annual Championship

The Navy Championship is conducted once a year and provides Ships, Establishments and Commands with the opportunity to compete for team titles and trophies. As the race is competed individually, it is a challenge for the team to balance the individual skills of the members to achieve an overall team result that is competitive with other teams. See Navy Snow Sports for details

Management Committee

The Navy Alpine Snowsports Association (NASA) was formed in 1994 to act as the governing body for the Navy Championship. In 2006 the 'Association' structure was discontinued to reduce the management overhead. In lieu, the President of the sport forms a management committee at the beginning of the each year from volunteers from past competitors to organise the annual championship for that year.
