It is an exciting time for Navy in the Top End. The Royal Australian Navy is celebrating its 100th birthday and is inviting the public to join them for a ton of fun during Navy Week in Darwin from 25 July to 1 August.

Commanding Officer of HMAS Coonawarra, Commander Richard Donnelly says Navy Week is a fantastic opportunity for the Darwin community to meet men and women in the service and a rare opportunity to take a close up behind-the-scenes look at how the Navy operates.

“There is a real buzz on the base at the moment as we gear up for Navy Week. This is our opportunity to say thank you to the Darwin community. Darwin welcomes our personnel with open arms, and this is our turn to reciprocate their hospitality. I urge locals and visitors alike to come and spend the day with us on Sunday 31 July,” CMDR Donnelly said.

“Our Navy personnel are supporting the local community at several events in the leadup to Navy Week, including Ladies Day at the Darwin Turf Club on Wednesday in recognition of the important role that women play within today’s Defence Force.”

Navy week will be packed with activities for the community to participate in including:

27 July
Navy Week Reception - hosted by City of Palmerston Council including a display and ceremonial sunset by the Navy Federation Guard Precision Drill team
28 July
Mindil Beach Markets - Federation Guard Precision Drill team display
