Navy Fleet Commander awards HMAS Albatross personnel
9 March 2010
The Navy’s Fleet Commander, Rear Admiral Stephen Gilmore, AM, CSC, RAN, will be presenting two awards during his visit to HMAS Albatross.
A “clear lower deck” will be called in 723 Squadron’s hangar at 1:30pm that will bring together all of the Squadron’s personnel in the one place.
Admiral Gilmore will then present 723 Squadron with the McNicoll Trophy, a long standing Navy award. First presented in 1968, the McNicoll Trophy is awarded annually to the Fleet Air Arm squadron with the best record in flying, safety and proficiency.
Admiral Gilmore will then present Able Seaman Luke Healey, of the Nowra based Aircraft Maintenance and Flight Trials Unit, with the Commander Ross Wendt, OAM, Award. This award recognises Luke’s contribution towards the Fleet’s Environmental Performance through his exemplary work in raising the environmental awareness of local Defence personnel.
Luke’s efforts included the coordination of a metal recycling program and the reduction of paper waste within the Naval Stores system. He was also involved in the Shoalhaven home composting program and National Plant a Tree Day.
