Navy People: Going Deep

ABCIS James Gilchrist.

James Gilchrist from Rockingham in Western Australia joined the Royal Australian Navy on the 26th November 2001. James did his initial training at HMAS Cerberus in Crib Point, VIC before specialising in Communication Information Systems at Watsonia Vic.

Before joining the Royal Australian Navy James lived in Banora Point, Tweed Heads NSW and worked at a Crayfish Factory, Metal Work Factory. James' Grandparents still live in Tweed Heads.

As an Able Seaman specialising in Communication Information Systems James is responsible for communication for Command, IT and Computer Maintenance and Bridge Safety. He has served on HMAS Stuart and HMAS Warramunga and been to South East Asia.

James decided to become a Submariner in April 2006 and recently completed his training at HMAS Stirling. He has served on HMAS Rankin, HMAS Sheean and is currently on HMAS Collins.

When asked what he loved about being in the Navy and a submariner he replied "I Love the variety and Responsibility of the job, and when the submarine goes deep."
