The Navy Contribution to Australian Maritime Operations: RAN Doctrine 2 - 2005

Cover

Launched on Tuesday 21 June 2005 at Maritime Headquarters in Sydney by the Chief of Navy, VADM Chris Ritchie, AO, RAN, The Navy Contribution to Australian Maritime Operations (NCAMO) is the second publicly available book containing the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN's) strategic-level doctrine. NCAMO builds on the philosophical principles of operations in the maritime environment set out in the first book of RAN Doctrine, Australian Maritime Doctrine (AMD).

NCAMO provides greater detail on the composition and roles of the RAN's major organisational elements and the capabilities each provides as a component of the developing joint, seamless Australian Defence Force (ADF). By describing how the philosophies outlined in AMD are applied in practice, NCAMO serves as a valuable handbook on the RAN of today and the immediate future. NCAMO will be revised periodically to ensure it keeps pace with changes in the RAN's current structure and capabilities.

While NCAMO is very much a book about today's Navy for the Navy, it is also sure to appeal to those outside the RAN and should greatly assist all Australians to better understand what the RAN does and how it contributes to Australia's national security.
