Publication:Sea Talk Spring 2005/Fresh functionality for the DSCM website
by POCIS Michelle Barker
Sailors keen for a greater say in their careers should consult the new, improved Directorate of Sailors' Career Management (DSCM) intranet site.
The DSCM webpage has a host of new features valuable to those after greater input into their career progression.
Information available at intranet.defence.gov.au/navyweb/Sites/DSCM/ includes:
- Lists of Sailors Postings (LSPs);
- Promotion signals;
- Updates to the Sailors' Career Management Manual (ABR10);
- Commonly used forms;
- Sea Change initiative details;
- Transfer of Category; and most recently
- The RAN Category Positions List.
The Category Positions List is a database created by DSCM to help personnel in the implementation of Sea Change. It can be used to find position for upcoming postings and is intended to go hand in hand with the implementation of the Five Year Career Plan.
Sailors can enter the DSCM website and construct a postings plan using the Category Position List.
The database provides a wide range of filters to narrow down vacant positions, foreseen vacant positions, incumbents posting to vacant or filled positions and posting locality to name a few.
It took three months to create the database and it's updated weekly to reflect the personnel database, PMKeyS, keeping personnel informed of changes regularly.
Supervisors too should use the database which has been designed to provide sailors and their families with the opportunity for more pro-active input into their careers.
The RAN Category Position List is not yet available for viewing on the NAVSISLAN. DSCM are currently working on developing a compatible database for access by fleet units. The list, however, should be available on the Outreach CDs for those in fleet units.
