CDRE Elsey appointed DGRES-N
CAPT Ranford Elsey RFD, RANR has been promoted to Commodore and taken over the helm as Director General Reserves-Navy from October 1.
He replaces CDRE Karel de Laat CSC, RFD, RANR who has completed an eventful record term of seven years and five months as DGRES-N.
CDRE Elsey is a seaman officer who brings a long Reserve history and wide experience of the RAN to his new position.
Initially trained in the Sydney Port Division as a navigator he later moved to Melbourne and worked with the Melbourne Port Division patrol boat crews as a Commanding Officer. He spent a period "full time" as the Commanding Officer of HMAS Warrnambool in 1994-1995.
Since that time and following promotion to Commander, CDRE Elsey has held several staff positions in Navy Headquarters. He moves to the DGRES-N position from the Director Naval Reserve Support-National billet. CDRE Elsey has been employed in various school principal positions during his civilian work career and presently works for Telstra as the Manager, National Program Office (Project Management).
Reserve Overseas Study Grant scheme: applications invited
Applications for the 2006 RANR Professional Studies Program Overseas Study Grant close on November 30.
The aim of the grant is to provide a Navy Reservist with funding to travel overseas to undertake a study project relevant to NR capability. The grant amounts to $14,000 to be used to cover travel, accommodation and other costs associated with the tour.
The study may focus on, but is not be limited to, issues such as NR involvement in:
- Maritime defence,
- Financial and corporate management,
- Operations and logistics,
- Human resources and training,
- Military health,
- Public relations, and
- Information systems and management.
All Navy Reservists are eligible regardless of rank or specialisation or whether they are in the Active or Standby Reserve but they must have undertaken at least twenty (20) days of service in the year prior to application.
If you're interested, submit your application in triplicate through your State Director Naval Reserve Support (DNRS).
