CAPT Mike Burton has handed over the position of Chief Staff Officer (Reserves) (CSO(R)) to Director General Naval Personnel and Training (DGNPT) to his deputy, CMDR Andrew Dale, after more than three years in the position.
CAPT Burton was appointed initially as the Principal Reserve Advisor to DGNPT after a the Gorman Report recommended the position be established.
CSOR is the Director General Navy Personnel and Training's senior officer for all Naval Reserve personnel and training and liaises with the Directors Navy Workforce Management, Officers Postings and Career Management, managing all day-to-day activities of Naval Reservists.
A number of changes have been implemented with NR personnel and training in recent years and it is fortuitous that CAPT Burton's relief is in fact his deputy.
CMDR Dale moves from the position as Reserve Regional Pool Manager NSW & Maritime Command and Deputy CSO(R).
CAPT Burton said he was sad to leave the position but believed he was handing over to someone who had 'done the apprenticeship' and would be capable of meeting the challenges that lie ahead.
