Thoughts turn to Home
As I write, Toowoomba is currently departing Jebel Ali harbour in the UAE. Our final port visit in the Middle East Area of Operations. In 48 hours we will handover the weight to HMAS Stuart and out chop from Operation Slipper. That means from now on every mile of water that passes under our keel is bringing us closer to home. Whilst this is a very happy feeling, everyone onboard knows that our mission is not over until we berth alongside FBW on the 7th December.
As we depart, we leave behind some fond memories of things we have seen, experienced and participated in throughout our time in the MEAO. Whether it has been the places we have been to, the cultural tours we have attended, the People we have met, the shopping we have done; and especially the job and mission we have completed.
There is a special sense of pride you feel when you take a few minutes to consider the achievements of the ship and her people. Conducting Counter Terrorism in the Gulf of Oman, monitoring vessels for illegal drugs and firearms, or in the very busy Gulf of Aden doing Anti Piracy operations and completing our time by providing support to Carrier Operations of the USS Nimitz. In everything we have done, the ship and its people have all stood firm and achieved the task.
The greatest achievement has, without doubt, been the love and support from our family and friends. You have all made similar sacrifices, but your thoughts and messages of support have helped to keep us focused on achieving our aims knowing that we will return to be reunited with you all. So as we release this 3rd and final issue of the Fearless Times for 2009, we say a big thank you to everyone who is and shall always be part of Team Toowoomba.
