Softball has been played in the Royal Australian Navy since 1987. Competitions are held at Inter-service, Combined-Service and International levels.

Softball has both male and female teams. All Service personnel, including full-time Reserve and Defence Australian Public Service, are encouraged to attend.

RAN Softball plays fast pitch. This sport develops hand-eye coordination and high spirit and morale among the players. Teams practice regularly and enjoy a high sense of achievement.

The East Australia Area mixed competition is usually played in September each year.
