Sailors a Hit With Sick Kids

05 November 2008

Members of the Navy Community Engagement Program (NCEP) at Navy Headquarters South Queensland decided recently it was time to add a little bit of joy to into the lives of a group of sick kids at Brisbane’s Royal Children’s Hospital.

Armed with balloons, stickers, tattoos, pens and rulers the team met up with patients, their families as well as staff from the hospital. The NCEP Team managed to put a smile on the faces of a few young children who don’t always have a lot to smile about. The NCEP Team were interviewed on the Hospitals own TV Channel and have been asked to make the visit a regular occurrence due to the positive effect it had on patients and families.

NHQ SQ NCEP Regional Coordinator (LEUT Anne Allica) said that the visit was very successful from a community engagement perspective because it portrays the human side of the Navy in a very positive light.
