Sporting Fun
19 October 2010
Navy participates in some pretty serious sporting challenges throughout the year but few can compete with the enthusiasm displayed at the Navy People and Reputation Division sports day held on October 1.
More than 90 people left their jackets and ties in the office to don sporting rig and other assorted garments for a fun day on the sports field.
Head of Navy People and Reputation Division RADM Trevor Jones, said “The day was about team building outside the office environment and providing some work-life-balance in what has been a busy year”.
Having a fun, non-competitive day of exercise allowed people of all fitness levels to participate in the event and gave participants an opportunity to foster new relationships across the Division with both uniformed and APS members attending.
While the spirit of the day was fun, there had to be a winner and no-one was better at dress-up relays, tunnel-ball and the egg and spoon races than the team from the Directorate of Navy Category Management, led by Lieutenant (LEUT) Karen Thomson.
LEUT Elena Cho from Team Shaz said “I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable the NPAR Sports Day turned out to be. I think the best part was meeting new people, both APS and uniformed, and quickly bonding in a team through a range of challenging and amusing activities. It was a great team building opportunity and more than that, a great opportunity to get out of the office and have fun with the people from within the Division”.
So the challenge is on for next years event where it is hoped more people will take to the field at HMAS Harman and invest in some beneficial team building and work-life-balance.
