Submarine Group

The Submarine Force Element Group Headquarters, the six Collins Class submarines and the majority of the submarine related defence support infrastructure is located at HMAS Stirling on Garden Island, WA. The FEG manages approximately $6 billion worth of assets and employs, directly and indirectly, over 1250 military, civilian and contract personnel [of this number approximately 600 ASC personnel are located in Adelaide].

The Submarine Force Element Group is a separate entity under the operational command of Maritime Commander Australia and is part of Maritime Command.

Commander Australian Navy Submarine Group does not exercise operational command over fleet units, however Commanding Officers of submarines are responsive to Commander Australian Navy Submarine Group for conforming to Submarine Force Element Group coordination requirements.
