The Submarine Force (SUBFOR) Headquarters, the six Collins Class submarines and the majority of the submarine related defence support infrastructure is located at HMAS Stirling on Garden Island, WA. The SUBFOR manages approximately $6 billion worth of assets and employs, directly and indirectly, over 1250 military, civilian and contract personnel [of this number approximately 600 ASC personnel are located in Adelaide].

Commander Submarine Force (COMSUB) does not exercise operational command over fleet units, however Commanding Officers of submarines are responsive to Commander Submarine Force for conforming to Submarine Force coordination requirements.
