The Grand Opening of the Wesley Apartments
22 February 2010
The Parramatta Mission, one of the charities HMAS Parramatta’s (CMDR Heath Robertson, RAN) supports, is a major regional provider of community services. Most recently Parramatta raised $10,000 for the charity, presenting them with the monies on return from their deployment in mid 2009.
The $10,000 was a great addition to funding needed by Parramatta Mission to build the ‘Wesley Apartments’. Parramatta Mission has been contracted to supply 6 badly needed 2-bedroom apartments’, located just 30 metres from Westmead Hospital’s entrance. The apartments will be used as high quality, low cost accommodation by families requiring a place to stay while their children are being treated at Westmead Children’s Hospital. In addition to the apartments, there are plans for a Playstation and games room since many of the children being treated are outpatients.
The Grand Opening of the Wesley Apartments on Tuesday 9 March will be conducted by the Governor of NSW, Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO and Parramatta will be sending 20 personnel to proudly represent the Ship and RAN.
