Week 2 - Waller Division Intake 267

16 March 2009

The second week of training saw the beginning of theory lessons, the 'Shakedown', and all recruits striving to continually improve their marching and cleaning skills. All recruits received their initial "kit up" (uniforms). This also means the start of their task to wash, iron, correctly fold their uniforms and place them in their lockers.

On Tuesday, the seven classes of Waller Division conducted their 'Shakedown'. Shakedown activities vary over each intake, but all are designed to improve listening skills and promote team building. Waller division's activities included a rigorous swimming activity, an introduction to "Battle PT", a mini force march, a sand pit circuit, rope swing, and a "Trust Fall" (a one metre backwards fall into waiting classmate's outstretched arms). Recruits finished the day exhausted, but all enjoyed the physical and mental challenges the day's activities provided.

The remainder of the week was utilised for the last of the initial entry briefs, further kit issue and class instruction.

This week has continued to develop our new recruits with noticeable improvements to their marching, knowledge of marks of respect, and self discipline. Next week will see the introduction of our recruits adopting the role of 'Class Leader', which will provide them their first opportunity to display their new found leadership skills.
