William Rooke Creswell
VADM Sir William Rooke Creswell (1852-1933)
Born: 20 Jul. 1852 in Gibraltar
Educated: Aitken's Private Sch, Gibraltar, and Eastman's Naval Academy, Southsea UK
Pre RAN History: in the RN 1865 - 1878. Moved to Australia in 1879 and become a pastoralist in NT.
RAN History:
- Joined SA Naval Forces 1885-1900 (Naval Comdt from 1893, Capt. from 1895).
- Naval Comdt Qld 1900-04, but commanded SA gunboat Protector to China during Boxer Rebellion 1900-01.
- Naval Comdt Vic & Director Commonwealth Naval Forces 1904-1911.
- First Naval Member ANB (as Rear-Admiral) 1911-19 (retd.).
- Promoted to Vice-Admiral on Retd. List 1922
Honours and Awards: CMG 1897, KCMG 1911, KBE 1919
Died: 20 April 1933 in Armadale, Melbourne
