Women's leadership recognised
11 March 2010
Congratulations to Commander (CMDR) Jennifer Wittwer who has been honoured with a National Advancement of Women in the Workplace Award (AWWA) for her work in establishing the Navy Women’s Leadership Program.
“It is wonderful and public recognition of the Navy Women's Leadership Program, and the value of that program to our women and the Navy,” said CMDR Wittwer, who was presented with her award by Chief of Navy.
“I am very honoured to have been selected.”
CMDR Wittwer was selected as the 3rd place Bronze winner of the inaugural 2010 AWWA, established by the Centre for Leadership for Women to recognise women and men who are leading the way in reducing gender disparity and promoting equity and women’s advancement in the workpplace. The award was announced nationally on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2010.
“CMDR Wittwer was nominated for the Award as a result of her outstanding efforts and experience in issues affecting women’s retention and equity and diversity, as the Navy Group Equity Coordinator,” said Vice Admiral Russ Crane, AO, CSM, Chief of Navy.
“She has also been pivotally involved into the inquiry and management of complaints of unacceptable behaviour across the Australian Defence Force.”
CMDR Wittwer is currently working in the New Generation Navy program, and recently coordinated the launch of the Women’s Mentoring Program as part of the 2010 Navy Women’s Leadership Program.
