Commander Dave Graham

CMDR Dave Graham

Commander Dave Graham joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1992 as a Seaman Officer and later specialised as a Submariner. He assumed command of HMAS Choules on 6 December 2016.

As a junior officer Commander Graham served in the Destroyer Escort HMAS Torrens, the Guided Missile Frigate HMAS Canberra and whilst on exchange with the Canadian Navy the Frigate HMCS Regina.

The challenge of a career in submarines appealed and he was awarded his Dolphins in 1997. He subsequently enjoyed postings to all bar one of the Collins Class submarines and commissioned HMAS Rankin and HMAS Waller.

The Armidale Class Patrol Boat HMAS Maitland was his first command at sea in 2006 and was awarded the Kelly Shield. He was subsequently posted on exchange to Flag Officer Sea Training in Plymouth, United Kingdom for the period 2008 to 2010.

On promotion to Commander he was appointed Executive Officer to HMAS Creswell, a position he held until December 2012 and for which he received the Conspicuous Service Cross.

His staff appointments include Deputy Director Submarine Capability (Personnel) and Secretary to Commander Australian Fleet.
