Commander David Tietzel
Commander David Tietzel joined the Navy 12 August 1988 through HMAS Creswell after growing up in Nowra to a naval family. ASLT Tietzel was awarded his BWC in HMAS Derwent in 1991 and served in DE's Parramatta, Derwent and Swan. After an Intermediate Navigation course in 1994, SBLT Tietzel spent 2 years navigating FCPB HMAS Townsville out of Cairns. He completed his Patrol Boat time at HQ NORCOM, in Darwin, as a Maritime watchkeeper before preparation for PWO course in HMAS Hobart.
LEUT Tietzel completed PWO course in 2000 and served as Direction Officer in HMAS Darwin and was commissioning crew of HMAS Warramunga before being posted to Arunta for her ICAT deployment in 2002. LCDR Tietzel was posted to San Diego for 2 years, attached to Commander USTHIRDFLT, as the RIMPAC Exercise coordinator for RIMPAC 2004. A truly rewarding posting that also allowed him to return to Australia with 2 beautiful children.
At the start of 2005 at HMAS Watson he instructed at the PWO Faculty to both the PWO course and the A stream sub specialization for the inaugural FWO course. LCDR Tietzel was awarded a CSM for his service, while attached to US COMTHIRDFLT, in the 2006 Australia Day honours list. He joined HMAS Anzac as XO at the end of 2006 during a very busy period of MR work up which concluded in a MEAO deployment for OP CATALYST rotation 16 in 2007. He saw out his time in ANZAC in Hawaii at the completion of the exercise that he had planned 4 years previous. Commander Tietzel completed Command and Staff Course in 2009 before relocating to Sydney as thes Head of Maritime Warfare for Training Authority Maritime Warfare at HMAS Watson where he had the rewarding duty of overseeing the warfare training of the Navy's warfare Officers and Sailors.
He assumed command of the ship he was commissioning Gunnery Officer of, HMAS Warramunga, on the 17th of January 2013.
