CMDR Micheal Jacobson

Commander Micheal Jacobson, CSM, RAN joined the Royal Australian Navy as a Midshipman at the Australian Defence Force Academy in 1995, where he studied for a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science).

On graduating from the Australian Defence Force Academy Commander Jacobson commenced his training as a Maritime Warfare Officer which culminated in the award of his Bridge Watchkeeping Certificate on HMAS Geelong in 1999. Commander Jacobson subsequently volunteered for service in submarines and commenced his training at the Submarine Training and Systems Centre at HMAS Stirling, as was awarded is dolphins onboard HMAS Farncomb in 2000. Since that time Commander Jacobson has completed postings to HMAS Dechaineux, HMAS Collins, HMAS Farncomb and HMCS Victoria, and completed the Submarine Warfare Course, the United States Navy Submarine Command Course and Royal Netherlands Navy Submarine Course. In August 2012, Commander Jacobson assumed command of HMAS Waller, where he remained until December 2014 and became the Command Sea Training - Submarines.

Commander Jacobson spent two and a half years with the Canadian Navy on exchange where he was posted as the Navigating Officer onboard a Victoria Class Submarine.

He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, a Masters of Business Administration and a Masters of Arts in Strategy and Management.

In August 2012, Commander Jacobson was Commanding Officer of HMAS Waller. Commander Jacobson assumed command of HMAS Rankin in December 2016.
