Commander Nick Watson

Commander Nick Watson joined the RAN in 1988 as a seaman officer and later specialised as a submariner.

He qualified as an Officer of the Watch in HMAS Brisbane, and following further qualification as a submariner, served in HMA Submarines Onslow, Otama, Collins, Farncomb, Sheean and Dechaineux. He also served in command of Armidale class Patrol Boat crew AWARE TWO in Glenelg and Maryborough.

Commander Watson served as Director New Generation Navy (NGN), the Navy’s cultural change program. His other staff appointments have included Fleet Gunnery and Seamanship Officer (MWV), J3 (Operations Officer) in HQJTF 639 (Border Protection Command), and N5 Policy, Seamanship and Seaworthiness in the Patrol Boat Group.

Commander Watson holds a Bachelor of Arts in History (Honours), a Master of Arts in Maritime Policy, and has conducted the Australian Command and Staff Course.

In December 2016, Commander Watson assumed command of HMAS Waterhen.
