News Feeds

What is a news feed?

A news feed (or RSS feed) is a convenient way for you to be alerted to new information on a website. The Royal Australian Navy's news feed will allow you to get the latest information as soon as it is published without having to regularly check the website.

How do I start using feeds?

Using a news feed is often known as 'subscribing' to that feed. This is much the same as subscribing to a newspaper and having it delivered to you as soon as it is available.

News feeds are also 'delivered' to your computer as soon as they are available, without you having to visit the website to receive them.

To get started using the Royal Australian Navy's feeds you need to do the following,

  • Firstly you need a program called a feed reader. Chances are you may already have a program capable of reading news feeds such as Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox.
  • A feed is commonly represented by a RSS icon.
  • Click the icon, or copy the URL in to the feed reader.
  • The Royal Australian Navy currently offers the following feeds,
