Djalkiri – Foundational Footsteps is Navy's Indigenous action plan for 2026 to 2031.
The plan sets out how Navy will strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through practical actions. It focuses on service, leadership, partnerships, cultural capability and recognition of First Nations contributions.
The Yolŋu word djalkiri means 'footprint'. It reflects understanding, mutual respect and walking together. The plan contributes to Navy’s reconciliation journey and will evolve as connections with First Nations communities grow.

Djalkiri supports a shared maritime narrative between First Nations peoples and the Royal Australian Navy. The plan acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' knowledge and connection to Country and Sea Country. It also promotes greater understanding of Australia's maritime heritage and identity.
