LEUT Andrew Forman

Lieutenant Andrew Forman joined the Royal Australian Navy in July 2002 at age 34. Born in Grafton, NSW, he completed his HSC in 1986 and has worked in both the electricity supply industry in Coffs Harbour and newspaper industry in Cairns prior to joining the RAN as a Midshipman.

During his career as a Maritime Warfare Officer Lieutenant Forman conducted his training on HMAS Bunbury and HMAS Townsville, both Freemantle Class Patrol Boats, and gained his primary qualification in December 2004 on HMAS Leeuwin. He has been Executive Officer (XO) of HMAS Wewak, Boarding Officer (BO) of ASSAIL Five, XO HMAS Tarakan (LCH) and XO/BO of ATTACK Six serving on HMA Ships Armidale, Bathurst, Broome, Maitland and Pirie, with a short stint with Minor War Vessel Sea Training Unit as the Training Coordinator in early 2008 in the Darwin and Cairns localities.

Lieutenant Forman posted ashore to the Sea Power Centre - Australia in June 2013 for 18 months as SO Concepts and Doctrine, then again posting back to Darwin as 2IC Transit Security Element (TSE) for 14 months. Following this was another move back to Canberra to take up positions with the J73 Branch at HQJOC as SO2 EXPLANS and then at the Patrol Boat Planner at Maritime Operations.

Lieutenant Forman has had numerous deployments to Operration RESOLUTE along with Operation RELEX II, Operation ASTUTE, Operation FALCONER, Operation PNG ASSIST and Operation YASI ASSIST. He has completed courses for: Intro to Joint Warfare, Amphibious Operations Planning and a week-long National Security course at ANU.

Lieutenant Andrew Forman assumed Command of HMAS Albany in June 2017.
