Lieutenant Commander Jared Webb

Lieutenant Commander Jared Webb joined the Royal Australian Navy in 2003 through the Undergraduate Entry scheme from the University of South Australia. Throughout his training he served on HMA Ships Bendigo and Geraldton conducting Operation RELEX before achieving his Bridge Warfare Certificate in 2007 on HMAS Arunta while deployed to Operations CATALYST and IRAQI FREEDOM.

In 2009 the then Lieutenant Webb returned to HMAS Watson for the Intermediate Navigation course and posted to HMAS Gascoyne as the Navigating Officer, participating in Operation RENDER SAFE, the multilateral effort to clear the Solomon Islands from unexploded ordnance from World War II.

After completing the Surface Combatant Navigation Course in 2010, the then Lieutenant Webb joined HMAS Darwin as the Navigating Officer, deploying to Japan to be embedded within the United States Navy 7th Fleet before participating in Exercises RIMPAC and TALISMAN SABRE, and Operation RESOLUTE. 

After completing the Principal Warfare Officer course specialising in Advanced Navigation, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander on joining HMAS Success in 2013 as the Operations Officer. During this posting, Lieutenant Commander Webb was exposed to one of the busiest periods in his career, with Success being involved in Exercises RIMPAC and TALISMAN SABRE, Operations SOUTHERN INDIAN OCEAN, RESOLUTE, and MANITOU, as well as representing Australia during the Anzac Day 100 year celebrations in Greece. During this rewarding time, Success operated with 12 different navies and culminated with being awarded a Conspicuous Service Medal.

Lieutenant Commander Webb posted to Fleet Navigation Officer in Sea Training Group in 2015, utilising his experience to train major fleet units in maritime safety and operations, before becoming the Officer in Charge of the School of Navigation Warfare at the end of 2016.

Lieutenant Commander Webb has a Masters Degree in Defence Management and Security.

Selected for Command in 2017, Lieutenant Commander Webb assumed Command of HMAS Glenelg (II) in December 2018.
