Lieutenant Commander Liam McMahon

Lieutenant Commander Liam McMahon joined the RAN in 2011 having completed university studies in history and German and worked as a horticulturalist. Whilst competing his training as a Maritime Warfare Officer he served in HMA Ships Perth, Maryborough and Glenelg before attaining his Bridge Warfare Certificate in 2013.
Between 2013 and 2017, Lieutenant Commander McMahon served as an Officer of the Watch in Perth and HMAS Stuart. Personal and professional highlights during this period were MH-60R First of Class Flight Trials and operational experience as a Boarding Officer domestically in support of OP RESOLUTE and in the Middle East in support of OP MANITOU.
Lieutenant Commander McMahon Qualified as a Principle Warfare Officer in 2018, and served in that role in HMA Ships Melbourne, Stuart and Anzac, before continuing in Anzac as the Operations Officer until 2022. Highlights in these roles were participation in the inaugural OP ARGOS deployment, working with allied and partner nations during the planning and execution of Regional Presence Deployments and the experience of serving as the RAN Liaison Officer onboard a foreign frigate for the duration of Exercise Kakadu 2018.
Prior to assuming command of ADV Cape Pillar in September 2023, Lieutenant Commander McMahon completed postings within Training Force as Officer in Charge – Maritime Warfare—West and then as the Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer.
