LCDR Robert Kelly

Lieutenant Commander Robert Kelly joined the Royal Australian Navy in 2006 as a Maritime Warfare Officer (MWO) serving in Her Majesty’s Australian (HMA) Ships Stuart, Balikpapan, Gascoyne and Tobruk.

Specialising as a Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Officer (MCDO) in 2013, Lieutenant Commander Kelly went on to serve as the Diving Officer in Gascoyne before taking up the role of Operations Officer at Australian Clearance Diving Team One (AUSCDT ONE) the next year.

Lieutenant Commander Kelly led the Maritime Explosive Ordnance Disposal (MEOD) detachment aboard HMAS Darwin in 2016 before assuming the role of Executive Officer AUSCDT ONE in 2017.

Lieutenant Commander Kelly has conducted Operations RENDER SAFE, RESOLUTE and MANITOU, recently deploying to the Middle East as the RAN embed within the US led Mine Counter Measures (MCM) Task Force, responsible for MCM planning and coordination of coalition assets within the Area of Operations.

Lieutenant Commander Kelly completed his Master of Business Administration through the University of New South Wales before assuming Command of HMAS Diamantina in June 2020.
