LCDR Scott Walker

Lieutenant Commander Scott Walker, RAN was born in Sydney, New South Wales. He was educated at Canterbury Boys’ High School and joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1983.

Lieutenant Commander Walker is a Submariner and Principal Warfare Officer with specialisations in surface warfare. He has served in HMA Ships Stalwart, Whyalla, Swan, Kanimbla, Manoora and HMA Submarines Otama, Oxley, Otway, Ovens, Onslow; accumulating a significant amount of sea time as a watch keeper, navigator, warfare officer, operations officer and executive officer. His experiences include numerous deployments in Indo-Pacific Asia and extensive engagement with navies throughout the region.

Lieutenant Commander Walker’s staff experience is diverse. He has served as an instructor at the Submarine Warfare Systems Centre, on exchange with the Royal New Zealand Navy as a Fleet Staff Warfare Officer, and as Operations Officer to Commander Amphibious Task Group. In Canberra, Lieutenant Commander Walker has completed Staff Officer positions at Headquarters Joint Operation Centre. Most recently, he was a Maritime Warfare Officer Career Manager at the Navy People Career Management Agency from March 2013 to February 2016.

Lieutenant Commander Walker was awarded a Deputy Chief of Navy Commendation for his efforts in support of Operation SOUTHERN INDIAN OCEAN. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Systems Management.

Lieutenant Commander Walker assumed command of HMAS Pirie on 6 July 2016.
