Leading Seaman (LS) Kiarra Turner was born in South East Queensland, growing up in the bush out at Tamborine. She joined the Royal Australian Navy in 2018 shortly after turning 19, bringing with her experience as an apprentice chef and a desire to finish her qualification while ‘making an impact on the world.’

Since enlisting, LS Turner has built a broad and dynamic service record. She has served at sea aboard ADV Cape Inscription, HMAS Shepparton and HMAS Cape Naturaliste. She has also served across several key shore establishments including HMAS Watson, Cairns and Coonawarra.

Much of her time has been spent supporting operations Resolute and Sovereign Borders, where she contributed to high tempo maritime security operations in demanding and unpredictable environments. She credits these early experiences, including patrol boat service, as formative. ‘Patrol boats are a great first posting because you have to learn to become a bit of an all rounder,’ she explains.

Throughout her career, LS Turner has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, culinary expertise and leadership. Her inclusive and team focused leadership style consistently strengthens morale and cohesion aboard every vessel on which she serves.

Her dedication was further highlighted during HMAS Cape Naturaliste’s workup period, where her efforts contributed to Sea Training Group recognition. Being nominated for Sailor of the Year stands as a significant career highlight, along with her first international port visit to Bali.

Outside work, LS Turner is driven by athletic passion, ‘you’ll find me in the gym, nine times out of ten’ competing internationally in bodybuilding.
