Navy recognises the knowledge, cultures, service and ongoing connections to Country and Sea Country of First Nations peoples. Through community activities, cultural programs and career pathways, Navy strengthens relationships and builds understanding.

Working with First Nations communities

Navy builds relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia.

Regional Indigenous Development Coordinators support engagement between Navy and local communities. They help coordinate community activities, cultural events, visits and opportunities to learn about Navy.

Navy’s engagement also includes pathways into Navy careers.

The Navy Indigenous Development Program helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people prepare for a career in Navy. This work is supported by the Navy Indigenous Action Plan 2026–2031 through actions focused on recognition, leadership, partnerships and cultural capability.
